Interviews with Monster Girls - Volume 3 (2016)

Author/Artist: Petos
Publisher: Young Manga KC

Synopsis:
A detective from the Demihuman Crimes Division and his partner visit the school for a routine checkup on Satou-sensei.

Story/Characters:
The detective from last time is Ugaki, an old acquaintance of Satou-sensei. While demihumans represent a small minority, their unique properties warrant a specialized division of the police force to keep tabs on them, both for their protection and the protection of the general public. Succubi in particular are an area of concern. You can imagine how their powers of seduction can be ill-used. In Satou-sensei's case, as someone on the straight and narrow, Ugaki's job is more to make sure things are going well for her, almost like a social worker. Because Satou-sensei is so conscientious of her abilities, Ugaki actually works more to try to pull her out of her shell. I do like how he quashes her mistaken impression that Takahashi-sensei is immune to her abilities, but rather than discourage her, this actually makes her fall for him even harder. (I do like that Takahashi-sensei is not in fact immune but just really goes the extra mile to hide it out of professional courtesy.) We then get a nice bit of one-on-one time between Ugaki and Takahashi-sensei were the two men size each other up and come to an understanding as people who both want what's best for the Demis.

We then have a couple fun Hikari-focused chapters, one about her having to actually study to bring up her grades to win Takahashi-sensei's approval and another where she rates people's arms for their nomnom quality. The next is tangentially related to her as Machi tries to act more like her as a way of getting closer to Takahashi-sensei, but she nearly gets herself in a tight spot and Takahashi-sensei gets on to her something fierce for it. Poor thing doesn't take it well, but they both work it out in short order. Next is a chapter where Satou-sensei participates in an experiment with Takahashi-sensei at Ugaki's urging to get him embarrassed. Lastly, there's a cute little quiet chapter where Machi thinks Takahashi-sensei is asleep in his office. He's not, and amusement follows.

Art:
We get plenty of great reaction shots in this volume. As expected, Hikari is the main source of this, but Satou-sensei also has her share of moments.

Conclusion:
The dynamic between Satou-sensei and Ugaki is rather interesting and his inclusion helps to nudge her into action, which moves things along where the status quo might have been maintained otherwise. We get a nice mix of funny and tender moments for an all-around pleasant package. If you're already a fan, you won't need me to tell you to add this to your collection.
