Hercules (1983)

Director: Luigi Cozzi
Starring: Lou Ferrigno, Brad Harris, Sybil Danning
Synopsis:
The demigod Hercules becomes the champion of humanity against the plots of the vengeful goddess Hera.
Impressions:
I actually saw the sequel before this, not that it had that much of an impact on the viewing experience. The writers play fast and loose with Greek mythology, but the new creation myth is kinda interesting and as I've noted in the sequel, Minos' goal to displace the gods with science (even if it is a rather magicky science) is neat. The dubbing is hilariously bad, much like everything else about the movie. Costuming, sets, creature designs and other special effects are pretty laughable, but this is one of those movies that are so bad that they're entertaining. Unless you just have no patience at all for a low-rent Italian sword-and-sandals flick, it's well enough worth a watch, but just make sure your expectations are suitably low.
