Impressions:
This was originally a mini-series, but because the version I saw was recut as a movie, I'm treating it as a movie rather than as a mini-series. Fans of the Halo franchise have likely already seen it in mini-series form on the Halo channel and anyone who isn't already a fan probably doesn't have much inclination to see this. As someone who doesn't play the games but is fairly familiar with the lore, I honestly can't say this adds a whole lot. As Commander Locke is going to be a main character in Halo 5, that may spark some interest to see him in action. The story and characters are decent and the effect are on the upper end of TV grade. There's some connection to the wider lore, but the story is fairly inconsequential in the grand scheme of things. Given that most sci-fi of this grade is utter rubbish, this looks fairly good by comparison. However, I hear this pales in comparison to the earlier Halo: Forward Unto Dawn. If you'd like a fairly middle-of-the-road story set in the Halo universe, this isn't a bad choice, but there may not be enough here for general audiences.
