Impressions:
I was in the mood for a scifi and the prospect of a villain protagonist intrigued me. I found the main character's previous life of NTR misery pretty funny for how overwrought it was, but the villainy of said protagonist proved to be a disappointment. Basically, we have the idea of a wannabe villain who's actually just a somewhat morally grey good guy, much like that one villainess series I gave up on a season or two ago. (If anything, the setting is so rotten that Liam's attempts at petty villainy make him seem virtuous by comparison.) There's some humor to be had in the irony in Liam's villainy having the opposite effect and the villainous puppetmaster's plots failing left and right. (Personally, I don't see why the Guide doesn't just feed on the misery of Liam's enemies, but I suppose a gourmand has his preferences.) I did enjoy Natsuki Hanae's hammy performance as the grown-up Liam and Liam and Amagi's relationship is pretty solid. Taken as a whole, it's not amazing, but there's enough that's worthwhile to justify giving it a watch.
