The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (1910)

Director: Otis Turner
Starring: Bebe Daniels, Hobart Bosworth, Eugenie Besserer
Synopsis:
A girl from Kansas is transported to the magical land of Oz when she is caught up in a tornado.
Impressions:
This is the oldest film version of The Wizard of Oz, the surviving cut around thirteen minutes. Its an adaptation of the Broadway play, so there's another degree of removal from the source material. Given how short it is, it's little surprise that there's not much story to be had. Basically we go from scene to scene, the characters dance around a bit and then it's over before you know it. Except as a historical novelty, there's not much reason to see this. If you want a proper early film adaptation of the material, the 1925 version would be a much better choice. On it's own merits, take it or leave it is the best I can say.
