Impressions:
Given my track record with Japanese romcoms, you might be wondering why I continue to subject myself to them. I actually didn't pick this one up right away but rather started around mid-season. I have somewhat mixed feelings about this one. There are a number of things that would normally get my goat, but pretty much every time there's a turn that annoys me, there's a counter-movement to make up for it. It really does help that whenever Himari rolls out the nonsense, she gets called out for it, and Yu isn't allowed to just wallow in wangst. The love triangle setup is pretty weak, as it's quickly made clear what the endgame is, though the way Rion plays on Yu and Himari's dynamic does add to the entertainment value. Also, the web of plotting around Yu and Himari makes this story stand out a bit. While there are some frustrations to be had, in the end, the experience is rather satisfying, which I don't see in too many Japanese romcoms. I won't say it's the best thing since sliced bread, but it's fairly solid and managed to pleasantly surprise me more than once, so that's enough for me to recommend giving it a watch.
